MORE…..there must be MORE

Posted on January 2, 2007

The god of comfort spoke to me again today saying, “be content with what you have, be comfortable, be safe, risk nothing, just sit on the couch.”

The god of certainty speaks to me daily saying, “you’ve been taught what you need to know, you’ve been told the truth, just follow it, ’cause there is no more to know, this is it, you know it all.”

I long to give in to certainty. I long to give up questioning. I long to quit striving for understanding. It would be so much easier.

But I just can’t end this innate desire for MORE:

MORE meaning than weekly rituals  liturgy (leading to no real sustainable change in communities of this earth).

MORE justice for the poor and suffering, the pale and downtrodden, the battered and the bruised, the tattered and the torn…

MORE leaders coming from the poor and working classes of America to be the voice of the people (a leader that is the “Voice of the People”? What a novel concept that is so rarely seen).

MORE visionary poets and prophets.

MORE people standing up for what they believe in.

Not MORE hurt.

Not MORE hunger.

Not MORE homeless in America.

MORE hope.

Not MORE despair.

MORE love.

Not MORE hate.

Not MORE war.

Not MORE murder of innocent civilians.

MORE peace.

MORE equality.

MORE democracy.

MORE voice from all people.

MORE voices from the fringes of society…  God bless the freaks!

MORE listening.

MORE dialogue.

MORE understanding.

Not MORE oligarchy.

Not MORE hegemony.

Not MORE plutocracy.

Not MORE rule by the few, the rich, the elite.

MORE tears for injustice.

Not MORE tears of suffering and pain.

MORE spiritual drive and action.

Not MORE religion.

Not MORE church.

MORE power of the spirit.

MORE power of the Spirit.

MORE thinking (individually and globally).

MORE awareness (individually and globally).

MORE consciousness (individually and globally).

What I see in America today just is not good enough.

Religious dogma leaving us in war!

Fundamentalists in bed with the powerful and the rich; in order to rule our country.

Churches with fancy buildings and padded pews leaving us with no tangible community change.

Political activists with party dogma leading us nowhere but where we have been.

I wish I could settle for the status quo…………but I just can’t.

Einstein has been credited with saying, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”.

The following is also credited to him: “We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.”

Do we really question what we are doing and why we are doing it?

So, how then, shall we live???
